Weekly Challenge #318

Happy Monday all!

How was your week?
Artoo and his class had a field trip to a farm this week, and i got to come along.  It was fun and Artoo loved the kitties
On the school bus!
He also got to brush the cow and milk a goat - and he learned about chickens and pigs and where our food comes from.

KITTEHHHS
Artoo started feeling pretty yucky by the end of the week, though, and so he stayed home with me on Friday - and he even fell asleep in my lap.  That's how i KNEW he wasn't feeling well..

We were on 'round the clock artoo-watch because he really really really wanted to play in his piano recital on saturday.

And he was still a bit sniffly and coughing - but both boys played and both boys did SOOO AMAZING!

Chewie - being awesome

Little Artoo on the BIG piano bench - he also did amazing.

Th boys and their teacher, Cheyenne
Sadly, our first Karl passed away this week.  He made it six months!  So we went to the pet store this weekend and now the boys have a new friend named Percy Jackson.

Say Hello to Percy
Grandma and Grandpa found Chewie a new bike at a garage sale this weekend  also - and so we went to get new helmets (These boys grow so fast!!)

YAY!
and while we were at the toy store we found an AMAZING thing - a three wheeled scooter - which is PERFECT for Artoo.  He has issues with balance, due to his Moebius Syndrome, but with that third wheel - he can scoot along pretty great! He loves it!!

 Weekly Challenge #318: "Diptych"
So, this week's challenge is to create a Diptych.

A diptych is two panels joined with a hinge - and the panels are mirrored - and i use the term 'mirrored' loosely.

So for you piece i took a tile and i folded it corner to corner.  I drew two triangle borders, one on each side, and then i tangled them.  I found it easier to draw something on one side and then repeat it on the other side.
fold in half

Now it's 3D!
For my first tile - i used Mooka as my 'hinge' to connect the two sides together.

Finished
I also did a diptych on a zendala tile - i folded it in half and then folded a few inches from the bottom.  I made a small cut in the tile so that i could tape it and make it stand up.

Black and blue
I've been meaning to try this technique for a long time.  Rick and Maria made a Kitchen Table Tangle video about diptychs which is on the full version of the Mosaic app.  it was fun, and i love how it looks.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to watch me stream last night! it was a fun crowd.
(You can watch me stream live on Sunday nights on my Twitch channel.  You don't need an account to watch, but you do if you'd like to join the chat!)

 have a great week!

Weekly Challenge #317

Happy TUESDAY everyone!

If you were celebrating Victoria Day in Canada, i hope you had a wonderful May Long weekend. We had a great weekend - the boys had Friday off school as well as Monday, so we went on a little roadtrip to Lloydminster, SK to visit my friend Christine and her kids.
Hilarious Road Trip Snacks... yes those are Ketchup chips, and they are amazing.

So hilarious
Lloydminster is just far enough away that the boys were pumped about a "road trip" but not so far away that they started getting too antsy in the van.

"Check out this scenery! Take a picture of me, mom!"
We met our friends for lunch and then spent the afternoon at the petting zoo, which the kids.... LOVED

Feeding the Llamas, Billy goats, and Camel
all four kids ran from pen to pen, feeding the animals grass and laughing - it was pretty fun.

Llama's love grass
It's a pretty decent petting zoo, in addition to the Llamas, the Billy goats, and the camel - they also had two Tortoises

And two little Timber Wolf cubs - one named Rosco and one named Duke.

Here's chewie holding Rosco, who is 5 weeks old

Artoo and Rosco - you can see Duke in the background
I was really impressed with Artoo at the petting zoo - he really doesn't like dogs or cats - so i was expecting him to be indifferent to the whole situation - but he LOOOOOVED the wolf cubs, and had no problems petting them and holding them.

They wolves were his favourite part, and we went back a few times.  Chewie loved the wolves the most, too.  And both boys also loved the Sheep pen.  They would laugh and pet the sheep and feed them grass and we spent a lot of time there as well.

my friend Christine's girls - i call them Elsa and Anna because the older one is blond and the younger is ginger.
They love my boys, and my boys love them too.  This sheep they named "The Blacky Black One"
We drove home that night just in time for bed, and the rest of the weekend was spent doing a garage sale on Saturday, and yard work and clean up on Sunday, and Monday the boys played on the trampoline and we roasted hot dogs for supper.
A spectacular sunset, taken from my front door.... The Land of the Living Skies!

Weekly Challenge #317: "Photo Tangles"
So, i had this idea for this week's challenge earlier in the week, and i had been thinking about how to do it...

And when i started streaming last night (www.twitch.tv/iamthediva) i still hadn't quite worked out what i was going to do... and so if you were watching last night you were treated to an extra special treat of me not knowing where to start - and really - it was a true tangling moment for me.  Very authentic.... i often don't know what i'm going to to until i start doing it.  I think that's one of the magical qualities of zentangle - the unplanned.

So my idea is to use an image as your string - and here i've used a model from a fashion magazine.  I sometimes find that shiny magazine paper doesn't really play well with Microns.  So i thought i'd just photo copy the image (my home printer has a copy function) and then cut it out and glue it onto a zentangle tile.  And that's what i've done here.

You could also cut out the image and glue it onto a tile, as Vonnie suggested last night... or you can go through your stash of fashion mags, or craft mags, or use an interesting photo in a grocery flier..

the basic premise here is to use the image as your string and tangle around it.

Add caption

 have a great week!

Weekly Challenge #316

Good Morning all!!

Thank you for all your birthday wishes - i had a really great week!

My birthday was celebrated with my 3 favourite boys.  Artoo made sure we took a "Last Day of Being 36" picture - because that's what we do on the night before their birthday

our fingers make 36.... his 3, his 1+my 5 (His idea!)
Bright and early Friday morning Artoo came running into my bedroom shouting "Happy Birthday Mom!!" followed closely by Chewie and i was gifted so many hugs and kisses.  Artoo was so excited because Friday also happened to be his Grade One year end recital!  There are 4 Grade 1 classes in his school - and his class were skunks.  He even had a speaking part! And so B-rad and I were really worried that his anxiety would get the better of him and that he wouldn't be able to to it.... But he spoke his words clearly into the microphone and we were so proud of him... i thought my heart would burst.

The cutest skunk in the biz
He felt pretty great about himself, and with good reason.  He did such a great job.
I'm a lucky lady.
I spent the rest of the day making art in my studio and i did a birthday live stream that was really fun.
Dill Pickle Bloody Mary
at dinner i made myself a Dill Pickle Bloody Mary made with Dill Pickle Vodka (Yes, it's a thing)

Here's how i made it:

2 oz Dill Pickle Vodka
Ice
Tomato juice
2 oz pickle brine
3-5 shakes Worcestershire Sauce
2-5 shakes Tabasco
garnished with celery stalk, dill pickle, olives, and pickled green beans.

Basically - it was a delicious boozy salad!

WIN WIN

Artoo told me that he really wanted to make me a cake for my birthday, so he and B-rad made one together after supper

tasty
On Saturday my mom and dad took the boys overnight so B-rad and i could go out for a birthday dinner, and i had the most amazing meal... a mushroom and blue cheese burger and a side of poutine!! mmmmmm poutine.

my mouth is watering just remembering how good it was

Date night with my hubs
On Sunday, Mother's Day, we went to my mom and dad's to pick up the boys and my mom and i were surprised with pancake breakfast prepared by my dad and my boys.  It was so tasty and the boys were so proud of themselves.

I really had such a great weekend, and i love my boys so much.  all three of them.  They sure know how to make a girl feel special.

Weekly Challenge #316: String Theory - Stripes!

This is one of my favourite challenges... i so love coming back to it and revisiting it!!  For this week - create your string using stripes! They can be varying widths, they don't have to be uniform or even... basically anything goes as long as it's stripes.

Thanks to everyone who joined me last night for the live stream, it was really fun.

For my tile i decided to use a zendala tile - for the sole reason that i haven't done a stripe challenge on a zendala tile before.
i named this one "Accidental Sunrise" on the Live Stream last night.
Remember if you'd like a sneak peek into the next challenge - join me on Twitch and watch as i create each week's tile.  I usually start streaming by 8:30 pm, my time - which is the same as Calgary AB, or Salt Lake UT (if that helps you) although sometimes i'm able to get down to the studio sooner.  Be sure to heart my channel and turn notifications on if you'd like to be notified when i'm streaming  (Sometimes i stream during the day as well)

 have a great week!

Weekly Challenge #315

Happy Monday all!!  Thanks to those of you who hung out with me on the live stream while i tangled last night.  My hubby pointed out to me the other day that if you have a Twitch account and want to be notified when i'm streaming you need to make sure that you have the notifications toggle switched to "ON"
 Like so:

Then you should get a notification each time i start streaming.  I will be streaming on Sunday night, but i'm also going to try to stream on Friday during the day.

 because
FRIDAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!!  WOO HOO!!
yeah.

So hopefully i'll see some of you then.

This week was jam packed - i gave blood....

goodbye blood
I had lunch with this cutie pie:

Me and Miss E
B-rad and i took the boys for lunch for McHappy Day, and it was a great opportunity to talk to them about Ronald McDonald Charities - and how they were both born premature but we were lucky enough to live close enough to the hospital that we could go to our homes at night.  Chewie found it all very fascinating.  Artoo was somewhat indifferent. lol

Happy McHappy Day
Artoo's class had a special PJ day this week, and he was pretty excited to bring his stuffed Kermit to school and to wear his Darth Vader PJs to school.  His class played games and had snacks and watched Trolls and he had a great day.

It ain't Easy being Green
On Saturday we took the boys to Free Comic Book Day - and then my friend Christine brought her girls over for the day and the kids played in the backyard while we visited and i got a sunburn - and then after they left the boys wanted to make a fire so we had a hot dog roast for supper and that was THE BEST THING EVER - according to the kiddos.

Roasting our Supper

Hot Dogs on the fire taste so much better.
Sunday afternoon B-rad took the boys on a "special" shopping trip that they all swear has NOTHING to do with a couple of Special Days that are coming up this week.... like my birthday.... on Friday... or mother's day on Sunday.

Artoo keeps giggling everytime he brings up the 'shopping trip' - which is all the time.  It's super cute.

Then we went out to my Brother and his wife's place for a belated Easter Supper - and Chewie was off running with his cousins, playing at the park across the street.  Artoo was content to sit on the living room floor and draw.   must be my kid. ;)

Weekly Challenge #315: "Tangle Study = Molygon"
Last week Rick and Maria released another episode of Kitchen Table Tangles on the Mosiac App - where Maria draws Molygon.  This is one of my favourite tangles - i love the way it looks, but i've never really been satisfied with the way mine turn out.  So the challenge this week is to spend some more time with Molygon because i think, at least for me, sometime the tendency with a new tangle is to try it out once and then you sort of go back to your old stand bys.  Sometimes it's good to go back and spend some time one-on-one with a tangle.

you don't have to make your tile a monotangle unless you want to.  i did.

Molygon on a tan tile
I just love the organic way that molygon grows out of itself.

A helpful tip to remember: Keep the spacing between your molygon as consistent as possible.  this will help with the uniform look of the moon shapes.

 have a great week!

Weekly Challenge #314

Happy Monday everyone!

Thanks to everyone who came and watched me tangle last night on Twitch - it was fun!
If you'd like to be notified when i'm streaming, just create a free twitch account and heart my channel to get updates on when i'm live.  I've been known to throw the cameras on if i'm in the studio making art while my kids are at school - hopefully that will work for some of my friends oversees!

If you follow me on instagram - watch for photos like this in my stories
Last weekend we bought the boys a trampoline - as they loved the neighbour's trampoline but they took it with them when they moved - (and Trampolines are fantastic therapy for Artoo).  Unfortunately the weather was really bad all weekend - with rain and YES SNOW off and on all week.

It's almost more frustrating that when it's winter, because they know that it's SOOOO close to spring - when they see snow in the mornings they seem almost insulted.  lol

budding artist
So they have been keeping busy inside - Artoo draws every single day.  It's so amazing.

He drew a human faced cat
This week i've been busy working on projects out of the house - feeling good that things are moving forward in those areas... go me!!

Finally on Saturday Chewie and B-rad got to work putting together the trampoline.  I'm very impressed, B-rad tells me that Chewie actually did most of the putting together himself!

Laying out the bars
B-rad helped him read the instructions and go through each step - and Chewie diligently worked on the trampoline for hours with his dad.

so many pieces
Artoo did a little bit of helping - but then he and I went to pick up a few groceries and get out of their hair.
My three boys, workin' hard
And all that hard work payed off - finally!!  The boys LOVE it and now they're out the door to play as soon as we'll let them!
FUN BOUNCY TIMES
On Saturday night i got all dolled up and headed over to Tara's for a Ladie's Night of drinking and so much cake.  So much.  Like, a ridiculous amount of cake.  mmmmmm...... so many cakes.

pre party selfie
Tara made me the best drink ever: a Dill Pickle Vodka Bloody Mary - Elisa we are drinking these when you come to visit....
Best drink ever
So much fun.

How was your week?

Weekly Challenge #314: "UMT: Scallamps - by Sarah Uram CZT"
